Last Days of the Romanovs: Tragedy at Ekaterinburg

description:

An examination of the final 13 days of the imperial family's lives, counting down Yakov Yurovsky's term as commandant of the Ipatiev house: 4 July-17 July, 1918.

(British edition published by Hutchinson/Random House entitled: Ekaterinburg: The Last Days of the Romanovs. Email for cover scans of UK hardcover or paperback.)

unique features:

Draws on previously overlooked sources of Sir Thomas Preston and Herman Bernstein, both of whom were in Ekaterinburg at the time of the execution.

similar to:

Fate of the Romanovs

in my opinion:

Worthwhile for its tight focus and balanced perspective. Rappaport's analysis of the Romanovs' personalities and family dynamic struck me as particularly valuable.

While I appreciated discovering a number of new domestic tidbits regarding the imperial family, readers hoping for a plethora of fresh facts about their incarceration and murder could be disappointed.

Note: Last Days of the Romanovs boasts an extensive bibliography, but no source notes. Questions regarding sources for specific information and conclusions may be addressed to the author directly, however, through provided contact info.
