The Dining Room is a superb example of Russian interior decoration of the early 19th century. Light walnut wood is used throughout the room, which contrasts nicely with the artificial marble of the pilasters, which are crowned with classical faces and Ionic capitals. A row of windows on three sides of the room brightly illuminates the chamber - particularly during the famous White Nights of summer in St. Petersburg, when the sun shines late into the night. The carvings in the room are the work of the artist, Demouth, and its furniture, doors and gilt bronzes all give the room a warm and inviting atmosphere. On the wall facing the windows are mirrors which reflect the Yelagin gardens, which give the illusion of transporting the lush landscape inside the room.
