Garden Pavilion

The first of two pavilions located in the park is found near the principal entrance of the palace and was used by the Imperial Guard as their primary security station. It's an impressive building, with a fine portico and pleasing proportions, which opens in back onto watery ponds filled with swans and other exotic birds. The pavilion has ten grey columns of striped Siberian marble, jardenieres in white marble, and is painted white, creating a cool tones against the blue sky and the strong greens of the ancient trees in the park.

On special holidays, Yelagin Park was open for the public to enjoy. On musical sundays the chevalier guards of the Empress would give concerts here in dress uniform, and would mix freely with all classes of society.
