House of Special Purpose

description:

A chronicle of the last days of the Imperial Family, compiled from the papers of English tutor Charles Sydney Gibbes.

unique features:

Personal anecdotes from the exile and Tobolsk captivity recorded by the imperial children's tutor. Photographs of the interior of the governor's mansion in Tobolsk and the Ipatiev House in Ekaterinburg.

similar to:

Fall of the Romanovs
Romanovs: The Final Chapter
Fate of the Romanovs

in my opinion:

Some of the stories from the Ipatiev House are second- and third-hand, and have been contradicted by more recent research. However, Gibbes's first-hand memories of the exile and Tobolsk captivity lend a personal touch to the imperial family's last days.
